What is Wegovy?
Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only, once-weekly injection for weight management in adults, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity.2
A clinician reviews your assessment before anything is prescribed, and is there if you have questions along the way.
How does Wegovy work?
- It mimics a gut hormone. Semaglutide works like GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after eating that tells your brain you've had enough.2
- Hunger turns down. For many people that means less hunger between meals and feeling full sooner, so eating less takes less effort.
- Digestion slows. It slows how quickly your stomach empties, so food stays with you longer and portions start to feel smaller on their own.
- Your changes do the rest. It supports changes to how you eat and move rather than replacing them. When treatment stopped in trials, much of the weight tended to return.3

How much weight can I lose with Wegovy?
average weight loss at the 2.4mg dose over 68 weeks, vs 2.4% on placebo1
14.9% average weight loss on Wegovy, vs 2.4% on placebo.1
Share of people on Wegovy who lost…
STEP 1, 1,961 adults. On placebo: 31.5%, 12.0% and 4.9%. Results vary from person to person.1
What is the dosing schedule for Wegovy?
You start at 0.25mg and step up every 4 weeks, only if it suits you. Each price is a month of four weekly doses.
Prices include your treatment and the care around it. Plenty of people stay on a lower dose.

How do I use Wegovy?
- Pick your day. Inject on the same day each week, at any time, with or without food.2
- Choose a spot. Your stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Use a different spot each week.
- Inject. Follow the leaflet for your pen step by step. Your clinician can talk you through the first one.
- Store it right. Keep pens in the fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Your pen's leaflet says how long it can be kept out of the fridge.
Missed a dose? If it's within 5 days, take it as soon as you remember. If it's been longer, skip it and take your next one on your usual day.2
How does Wegovy compare with other options?
Figures are average weight loss at the highest dose in each medicine's main trial, alongside diet and activity. They come from different trials in different people, so they aren't a direct ranking. The one direct comparison: when tirzepatide (Mounjaro) and injected semaglutide (Wegovy) were tested head to head over 72 weeks, average weight loss was 20.2% and 13.7%.7
